Far Away From Everything. Literally.

If this ain't paradise, I don't know what is.

Dear reader,

There are no two ways about it: the south-west of Australia is gorgeous. It's also in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Which is maybe why it's so gorgeous. Because to get there takes wayyyyy too long. And not just because the authorities decided it would be fun to take a train for days instead of hopping on a plane for four hours. (I'm not holding a grudge. Really, it's fine. All I'm saying is next time you ask before you plan something batshit crazy like this, m'kay?!)

Anyway, so it's gorgeous. Perth is a cute little town with lots of parks, water, beaches and whatnot. Everyone's fit and gorgeous and the food is delicious. But, you know, at the end of the world. Also, it's expensive if I heard the authorities right. I don't handle money much myself but apparently you need a lot of it here.

Look at this though!

It's almost too much, isn't it?!
It was free and we were melting in the sun.
Now this is my kind of museum. I can highly recommend the maritime museum in Perth. And not just for it's reclining options.
Really a very fine museum.

The place we stayed at was in the suburbs but it had a park with a huge playground next door and barbecues all over the place so you could bring your dinner to the park.

Dinner at the playground should be the norm, not an exception.
It was so ridiculously hot that we even went to the video game museum. Turns out, that was a lot of fun.
Shoot the ducks BabyPaw! Shoot'em!
35C in the shade and Transportation really lives up to his name. What a star.

And because Perth wasn't far enough away from everything yet, the authorities rented a car and drove us even further south to a place called Margaret River. It's a 3 hour ride but with BabyPaw in the car that turns into a good day's drive. Man, does that kid get bored quickly... The upside was that we got to see lots of fun stuff along the way.

This never gets old. Give us some plywood with a hole in it and I can guarantee you we'll want our picture taken. I don't care how hot it is, Catering!
They have the softest little nuzzles...
The delight wasn't mutual, I'm afraid.
Transportation once again doing his thing. He's really quite remarkable in this sense.
Just to remind you, you're really, really, REALLY far from everywhere.
Longest jetty in the southern hemisphere. Of course we had to go to the end.
On a train. Because as mentioned previously, it was HOT. And trains are fun.
Bathers jumping off the jetty.

At the end of the jetty they had built a little underwater viewing station so you could see all the fish and marine life that's grown around the pylons. It was really quite neat, especially that one fish that still had a hook in his mouth. (The announcer lady assured us he was fine. Just looked like a punk until the hook would naturally be pushed out with time.)

Tiny little see-through fishies.
A nudibranch!!!
A giant school of anchovies swam by. Hmm, now I'm hungry...
"Our" beach. Man, it was pretty there...
Walking to breakfast. Because in this family you have to earn your nourishment.
A bit warmer than the sea but not by much, the river Margaret.
We brought about two buckets of sand home in our underwear. Catering was so happy she almost cried. It was awesome.
Cookies for dinner, good stuff.
At this point, two crazy kids actually went into the ocean. Brrrr....
Alright everyone, get ready for the green flash... Here it comes!
They really do know how to do sunsets here.
I mean look at this!
SERIOUSLY!!

So yeah, Western Australia is the place to be if you want gorgeous nature. And don't much care for other people. Highly recommended.

In other news, we'll soon be traveling in time. We leave Melbourne Friday afternoon and will land in Hawaii Friday morning. I don't know who the authorities had to bribe to get this done but I am very excited.

Later gators,
