A Small Interlude About Traffic

A Small Interlude About Traffic
Sorry kiddo, we're fresh out of helmets

Traffic is hell in all major cities around the world, sometimes even in the minor ones (looking at you, Florence). But thanks to the peculiar mix of motorized vehicles, pedestrians and wildlife, India manages to make its roads extra special. It‘s hard to describe the noise and constant movement that makes up the roads here so I’ve put together a few videos to illustrate.

In Delhi. Quite civilized really with dividing lines on the floor and everything. Not that anyone cares about those.

Downtown Jaipur. Make sure you have your audio on for the full experience

This is not so much about traffic as the overall street look. This is right outside our hotel in Jaipur which was pure luxury but that doesn't extend into the neighborhood. (The audio here is boring, just a bunch of excited yoga retreat ladies chattering.)

A few people have asked about cows and yes, they really are everywhere and yes, they totally have precedence. Or rather no one wants to be seen to mess with a cow so even the police won't do much when a cow is standing in their preferred parking spot:

They were trying to back into the spot and the cow wasn't having any of it.
They finally nudged it out by backing into her space ver-r-r-r-y slowly. But it was definitely touch and go for a minute about who was going to get the spot.
